From Spread to Prop: Ways To Bet On American Football

Point Spread Betting:

In point spread betting, the sportsbook assigns a point spread to each game. The favorite team is given a negative point spread, while the underdog receives a positive spread. You can choose to bet on either team, and your selection must “cover the spread” by winning or losing by a specified margin to determine the outcome of the bet. This type of bet creates balanced odds for both teams and adds excitement to the game.

Moneyline Betting:

Moneyline betting involves betting on the outright winner of the game, regardless of the point spread. Each team is assigned odds based on their perceived chances of winning. Favorites have negative odds, indicating the amount you need to wager to win $100, while underdogs have positive odds, representing the potential winnings for a $100 bet. Moneyline bets are straightforward but may have varying payouts depending on the perceived strength of each team.

Over/Under Betting:

Over/under, or total betting, focuses on the combined score of both teams in a game. The sportsbook sets a predicted total score, and bettors can wager on whether the actual score will be over or under that number. You don’t need to pick a specific team; instead, you’re predicting the offensive output of both teams combined. Over/under betting adds an extra dimension to the game, especially for those who enjoy analyzing scoring trends and team performance.

Prop Bets:

Proposition bets, or prop bets, are wagers placed on specific events or outcomes within a game that are not directly related to the final result. These can include individual player performances, team statistics, or even off-field factors like the coin toss result or halftime show. Prop bets offer a wide range of options and add excitement to the game beyond the overall outcome.

Parlay Betting:

Parlay betting involves combining multiple individual bets into one wager. To win a parlay bet, all the individual bets within it must be correct. The potential payout for a parlay bet is higher than for individual bets, as the odds multiply together. However, the risk increases as well, as a single incorrect bet results in the entire parlay being lost.

Teaser Betting:

Teaser betting is similar to parlay betting, but it allows you to adjust the point spread or total score in your favor. By adding points to the underdog or subtracting points from the favorite, you increase your chances of winning the bet. However, the adjusted odds are lower than in traditional point spread or over/under betting.

Futures Betting:

Futures betting involves placing long-term bets on events that will occur later in the season, such as the Super Bowl winner or the conference champions. These bets are made well in advance and can provide high payouts if your prediction turns out to be correct. However, since the outcome is uncertain, it’s important to consider the team’s performance, injuries, and other relevant factors before placing a futures bet.

Ways To Bet On American Football

It’s crucial to research teams, players, and current statistics before placing bets. Understanding the various types of bets and developing a betting strategy based on your knowledge and risk tolerance can increase your chances of success in American football betting.
